What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a healing therapy, which involves inserting fine needles into specific points, or meridians, along the body.  It reestablishes balance and unblocks the flow of energy, allowing for a more thorough treatment of the whole person, not just the symptoms of the ailment.

For centuries, it has proven its effectiveness in curing a host of ills.  Every day, more and more people are discovering the life-changing, long-lasting effects of acupuncture treatments.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Modern Western medicine can not easily explain how acupuncture works.  Traditional acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (Energy) and Xie (Blood) through distinct meridians or pathways that over the body, somewhat like the nerves and blood vessels do.  According to ancient theory, acupuncture allows Qi to flow to areas where it is deficient and away from areas where it is in excess.  In this way, acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

That depends on the duration, severity and nature of your problem.  You may need only a single treatment for an acute condition, but more typically a series of four to seven treatments is needed to resolve a chronic problem.  In some cases, such as degenerative conditions, a series of regular but infrequent visits may be the best course of treatment.
