Frequently Asked Questions
What Are the Treatment Sessions Like?
Quick and easy! After your initial preparation, your treatment provider will move a wand-like hand piece over your skin. The hand piece emits a light that disables the hair follicles. Once this is completed, the treatment provider will wipe away any loose hair from your skin, and you're ready to go.
What Should Most People Expect After Treatment?
Most people experience some mild redness and tenderness in the treated area shortly after treatment. This does not interfere with normal activities and usually subsides within a day. In some cases, the redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary. Your treatment provider will explain other, less likely side effects to you. You can continue on with normal daily routines immediately following treatment, but do need to keep the treated areas out of the sun.
What Does It Feel Like?
Each pulse, which lasts less than a second, produces a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a quick, light pinch.
Is It Suitable For Everyone?
The Palomar Medilux System enables our technicians to customize the treatment to exactly match your hair and skin color and type. As long as there is some color in your hair (even blond hair has enough color), then the Medilux will be effective.
What Does The FDA Say About Laser Hair Removal Treatments?
The FDA has approved the use of the Palomar Medilux system for safety and effectiveness for the permanent reduction of hair.
Is Hair Removal Temporary or Permanent? How Many Treatments Will It Take?
Hair removal is both temporary and permanent. During a short (4 to 7) series of treatments 4-8 weeks apart, clients will rarely have to shave, tweeze, or pluck. However, if the treatments stop, some of the hair will return in a few months, which will be finer and lighter than before. The more treatments, the less hair will ultimately come back.
What Are The Worst Things That Can Happen With Intense Pulse Light Treatment?
Rare complications include burning, blistering, and extra pigmentation. All of which will usually resolve in a few days to a few weeks.
Do Laser or IPL Treatments Cause Cancer?
No, the light is in the visible range and has never been shown to produce cancers of the skin or any other organ.
Is there a minimum age limit?
Yes, clients must be at least 12 years of age and to be most effective through puberty.

The Treatment Procedure
Before you arrive for each hair removal treatment, we’ll ask you to follow a few simple instructions to make sure your results are as satisfying as possible.
Stay out of the sun–a recent suntan or sunburn can sensitize the area and can adversely affect treatment effectiveness. It’s recommended that you don’t engage in active tanning for three weeks prior to treatment.
Refrain from tweezing, waxing, sugaring, electrolysis or other epilation methods for at least three weeks prior to treatment.
The area to be treated must be shaved free of all hair.
The treatment area should be absolutely clean of any lotions, creams, makeup, sun block, perfume or any other chemicals or skincare products. These can cause allergic reactions, and can impede the transmission of light, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.
Each time you come in, we’ll ask you a few questions about your medical status. This may seem repetitive, but it’s necessary to make sure nothing has changed regarding medications taken, sun exposure, possible pregnancy, etc., that can affect the treatment outcome.
Treated skin may appear pink or slightly red for a day or so afterwards–this is completely normal. On very rare occasions, pinkness, redness, minor blistering or persistent pain may occur. If they do, contact us for instructions.
Hair will continue to grow after your treatment. Some of these hairs are being expelled from the newly disabled follicles, and some are from dormant follicles entering their active phase after the treatment.
To achieve the maximum possible hair reduction, it is necessary to follow the full Hair Removal Protocol of Five to Seven treatments per area, scheduled six to eight weeks apart. all about you uses the most advanced, most effective technology and protocols available. Anyone who tells you that optimum results can be achieved with fewer treatments is simply not telling the truth.
Benefits of Pulsed-Light Hair Removal
Long Lasting Results
Pulsed-light lasers work by emitting pulses of intense lamp-light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. Simply Smooth features handpieces which accommodate a variety of treatment options, such as permanent hair reduction on multiple skin types. Simply Smooth will provide you information on the results you can expect.
Comfortable Hair Management
Traditional waxing and threading treatments which essentially rip the hair from the skin, can be quite painful. Most people, however, find Simply Smooth's treatments to be significantly more comfortable. In addition, since the pulses of light penetrate the skin, you do not need to let your hair grow out before you are treated. With Simply Smooth's treatments, you can remain virtually hair free all of the time!
Thanks to the advanced technology of the Palomar Medilux System* that Simply Smooth utilizes, hair removal works much faster and more effectively than any other conventional hair removal system. This allows a woman's legs or a man's back to be treated in under thirty minutes, and smaller areas - such as the underarms, upper lip or bikini line - can be treated in even less time!
* Palomar Medilux System is FDA approved for permanent hair reduction.
