What is Alternative Foot Care? In the Western Medical model, the type of healthcare commonly practiced in the US today, patients present a complaint such as painful feet. The MD, often times a podiatrist, makes a diagnosis such as plantar fasciitis (with or without medical testing). Then the doctor will offer a predetermined prescription (based on the diagnosis) of either drugs, surgery, or physical therapy. Often times this plan will give some relief from the patient’s complaint. Many times not. Perhaps you’ve experienced this yourself.

But the one thing the Western Medicine model can never do is determine and resolve the core problem: loss of proper anatomy & physiology of the foot. Or in layman’s terms: Your foot is out of alignment so it can’t work right anymore. This results in discomfort. That’s where Alternative Foot Care comes in.

In the alternative foot care model, although the client’s complaint and symptoms are important, they are not crucial to the treatment plan. This is because the ONLY goal in the alternative model is to restore proper anatomy to the foot so that it can function properly. When this is accomplished, in most instances, many symptoms will disappear on their own. This is because, like a piece of fine machinery, the human body operates best within very tight tolerances. Those tolerances must be met for the body to “mechanically” work right and feel its best.

Restoring proper anatomy and physiology to the feet can help reduce the discomfort of:

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Flat Feet

  • High Arches

  • Bunions

  • Hammertoes

  • Heel Spurs

  • Headaches

  • Neck/Shoulder Pain

  • Morton’s Neuroma

  • Achilles Tendonitis

  • Shin Splints

  • Knee Pain

  • Hip Pain

  • Low Back Pain

  • “Bra Line” Pain
